Care Philosophy
Pain, weakness, and disability caused by trauma, degenerative arthritis, or tumors of the brain and spine are debilitating for patients and can prevent you from fulfilling your daily needs or pursuing your passions. Your medical problem essentially takes over your identity. My approach as a surgeon is to work with you to identify what your goals and limitations are in day-to-day life, and to see whether there is a problem that I can address with surgery to help you meet those goals, and remove those limitations. When surgery is necessary, I try to address the problem in the least invasive way possible, using the most up-to-date techniques and methods to give you a safe and successful surgical outcome. When surgery is not the answer, we work together with you and with other specialists to help you find the answers you need. I am fully invested in helping you get the most out of your visit with us so that we can get you back to doing the things that make you, well, you.
Specializing In
I treat a broad spectrum of disorders of both the brain and spine. My special interests include complex spinal deformity, spinal tumors, and degenerative disease of the spine. Over my training, I gained extensive experience using both open and minimally invasive techniques, allowing me to tailor treatment plans to each patients specific needs. In addition, I am passionate about helping patients who have suffered trauma to the brain or spine. During my training at 3 separate Level 1 trauma centers, I learned to appreciate the resilience of trauma patients and their families. In respect for that resilience I do my best to make sure those patients get prompt and state-of-the-art care to maximize their recovery from these devastating injuries.
Interests & Activities
When I'm not at the hospital, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two kids. We love exploring Northern Colorado, whether that's hiking/biking/horse-riding in the mountains or visiting local farmer's markets or just enjoying the beautiful views. I also enjoy gardening and am working on improving my little plot. On rainy days I enjoy painting or reading a good book.
