Care Philosophy
My care philosophy is centered on listening carefully to each patient, understanding their goals, and developing an individualized treatment plan that fits their lifestyle and treatment expectations. Through our research efforts, we have learned that spine conditions can impact every part of a person’s life, including pain, function, independence, work, family interactions, self-image, confidence, and emotional well-being. Consequently, I believe care must be compassionate, evidence-based, and tailored to each individual.
I specialize in treating adult and pediatric patients with scoliosis, patients who have persistent pain despite previous spine surgery, patients needing revision spine surgery, and patients requiring complex spinal reconstruction. My treatment approach integrates findings from our research, advanced treatment techniques, and shared decision-making to help patients and families understand all appropriate treatment options.
When surgery is appropriate, I focus on safety, function, durable outcomes, and helping patients return to the life they want to live. I believe the best outcomes come from trust, research, education, teamwork, and clear communication between the patient, family, surgeon, and care team.

Interests & Activities
When I am not treating patients, I enjoy spending time with my wife and son, staying active through fitness, and playing sports and traveling with my family. Additionally, I am president of a world-leading research foundation, through which I aim to improve the lives of patients with complex spinal conditions via clinical research, surgical education for medical students, residents, fellows, and young surgeons, and collaborative efforts with colleagues around the world.
