Care Philosophy
My approach to care is characterized by the 3 C's.
Communication: At a new patient visit, I take time to ask you about your symptoms and other elements of the medical history to gain a full understanding of what is you are experiencing. Then I will do a detailed exam. At the end I will always explain what I think is going on or which things may be going on. We will go over the plan in detail, including why I may be ordering studies to help confirm what the issue is, and we will discuss potential treatments and other potential interventions.
Choice: I present you with choices regarding treatment or further workup and explain why I think they would be helpful. I am actively involved in clinical research, so there may be experimental options that we may need to consider as well.
Collaboration: I depend on your input. The patient always makes the final decision as to how they wish to proceed with workup or treatment options.
Specializing In
I am a Neurologist (MD and completed a 4 year Neurology residency after med school) who completed a Movement Disorders Fellowship (additional 1.5 years of subspecialty training after completion of my Neurology residency). I currently restrict my practice to the field of movement disorders. I do presurgical selection/ referral and post-operative programming for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery, DBS programming and management, pre-operative selection/ referral and post operative follow-up of High Frequency Ultrasound ablation surgery, botulinum toxin injections (for dystonia and spasticity), as well as all PD medication options (including the pumps for the intra-intestinal (Duopa) and subcutaneous infusions (Vyalev) of carbidopa-levodopa). I am actively involved in clinical research.
Interests & Activities
In my spare time I enjoy urban walks, hiking (especially in National Parks), watching films, reading mysteries and thrillers, NBA (go Warriors!), NFL (go Niners!), NCAA sports (go Cal Bears!), word games, trivia nights, and playing poker - mostly in free leagues, though I'll rarely play a casino tournament.
